Strawberry Slab

Font design

Font Concept Strawberry Slab is a whimsical and charming font design deeply inspired by the cherished family tradition of strawberry picking. This annual ritual has always been a source of joy and creativity for me, and I wanted to capture that essence in a font that embodies the warmth, fun, and nostalgia of those special moments.
The Strawberry farmTo showcase the font's versatility and appeal, I contextualized its use on a strawberry farm. The playful and organic forms of "Strawberry Slab" enhance the farm's branding and signage, creating an inviting and nostalgic atmosphere for visitors. The font's design elements, such as berry-like curves and vine-inspired swirls, reflect the natural beauty and whimsy of the farm, making it a perfect fit for labels, signs, and promotional materials.

The processThe design process for Strawberry Slab was a rigorous 14-week iterative journey, guided by the expertise of professor and font designer Greg Lindy of Luxtypo. I began with hand-done calligraphy to understand the fundamental shapes and structures of the letterforms. Then I transitioned to digital design with the software Glyphs. Throughout this phase, I meticulously crafted each character of the slab serif font, undergoing numerous revisions to refine and perfect the design. The iterative process ensured that the font not only met high standards of readability and aesthetics but also captured the whimsical and nostalgic spirit inspired by my family's strawberry picking tradition.
